Ipoh Old Town
Ipoh Old Town is a rewarding self-drive destination for travellers who enjoy heritage architecture, limestone scenery and famous local food. The compact historic centre is easy to explore on foot after you park.
What to visit: Begin at Ipoh Railway Station, then see the Town Hall and Old Post Office, Birch Memorial Clock Tower, the Ipoh Mural Art Trail and Concubine Lane. Stop for Ipoh white coffee and local favourites. With a rental car, you can also continue to Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple, Tasik Cermin or Kellie’s Castle outside the city centre.
Driving guide: From Kuala Lumpur, follow the North–South Expressway north towards Ipoh and use the appropriate Ipoh exit for your planned first stop. Leave early on weekends and public holidays. Park legally near Old Town, then walk between the central attractions to avoid repeatedly searching for parking. Ipoh City Council currently supports cashless on-street parking through Park@Perak and Flexi Parking; check the latest signs and parking conditions when you arrive.
Car rental tip: A compact car or sedan is convenient for city streets and couples or small groups. Families carrying luggage will have more space in an MPV or SUV. Contact KARBOOK before departure for a suitable rental car and flexible pick-up arrangement.
